West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced that the state will implement the National Health Mission (NHM), with the Central Government approving financial assistance of ₹2,103 crore for the programme.
Speaking at a health department event in Kolkata, Adhikari stated that more than 1.36 crore families in the state are expected to benefit from the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme, expanding access to healthcare services for a significant section of the population.
He said that of the ₹2,103 crore sanctioned under the NHM, the state has already received ₹527 crore. According to him, the funds will be used to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve the delivery of medical services across West Bengal.
The Chief Minister also announced that dedicated control rooms are being established to monitor and supervise district hospitals, with the aim of enhancing healthcare management and service delivery throughout the state.
