Initiative to Generate India-Specific Data on Heart Valve Treatments
India has taken a significant step towards strengthening evidence-based cardiac care with the launch of the India Valve Registry, a multi-centre initiative designed to collect and analyse clinical data on heart valve interventions.
Vice President CP Radhakrishnan launched the registry during India Valves 2026 on Sept 5, a national meeting focused on valvular and structural heart diseases. The event brought together leading cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, researchers and healthcare professionals.
Focus on Real-World Patient Data
The registry will enable hospitals and specialists across India to systematically record patient information, treatments and clinical outcomes related to transcatheter valve procedures. The data will be collected securely and in a de-identified manner.
The initiative is expected to provide doctors with a stronger understanding of how valve interventions perform among Indian patients and help identify areas where treatment practices can be improved.
Building India’s Own Clinical Evidence
Speaking at the event, Vice-President Radhakrishnan highlighted the importance of developing India-specific medical evidence rather than depending largely on clinical data generated in other countries.
He said that combining experiences from multiple hospitals and clinicians could turn individual cases into valuable collective medical knowledge, supporting better decision-making and patient outcomes.
Collaboration at the Centre
The initiative also aims to encourage greater cooperation between cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, researchers and healthcare institutions. Such collaboration could support future research and strengthen treatment protocols for valvular and structural heart diseases.
Radhakrishnan also emphasised that advances in healthcare and medical technology should ultimately remain focused on improving patient welfare and ensuring that the benefits of medical progress reach people more widely.
