Veteran Actor Nana Patekar Dies at 75 After Cardiac Arrest

Veteran actor Vishwanath Patekar, popularly known as Nana Patekar, died at the age of 75 after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa on Thursday, October 8.

Patekar was found unconscious at his apartment in Dona Paula, near Panaji, in the early hours of Thursday and was subsequently taken to a private hospital. According to Dr Shekhar Salkar, Chief of the Oncology Department at Manipal Hospital, said Patekar was brought to the hospital in an unresponsive condition after reportedly feeling unwell and sweating heavily.

Doctors performed continuous cardiac massage and CPR for around 45 minutes to an hour, but he could not be revived and was declared dead at around 5:10–5:30 am. According to Dr Salkar, Patekar had messaged a friend around 2:30 am saying he was not feeling well, but the message was seen later. His friend reached the residence around 4 am, following which arrangements were made to take him to the hospital. A medico-legal case has been registered, and his body has been taken to Goa Medical College for a post-mortem examination.

A medico-legal case (MLC) has been registered, and a post-mortem examination will be conducted by the authorities, Dr Salkar said, according to an ANI report.

Patekar was one of the most recognised actors in Indian cinema, known for his performances across Hindi and Marathi films. He received three National Film Awards, four Filmfare Awards and two Maharashtra State Film Awards, among other honours. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2013 for his contribution to cinema and the arts.
