Jagat Prakash Nadda on June 29 inaugurated a series of digital health initiatives at Vigyan Bhawan aimed at strengthening the implementation of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, marking a significant step towards building an integrated and interoperable digital healthcare ecosystem in India.

The initiatives, developed under the aegis of the National Health Authority and the National Resource Centre for EHR Standards, are designed to enhance accessibility, interoperability, standardisation and efficiency across the healthcare ecosystem.
Among the key launches was Aarogya Setu 2.0, a revamped citizen-centric Personal Health Record (PHR) application that enables users to create and manage ABHA accounts, access and share digital health records, avail AI-powered health insights, integrate wearable devices, and access a range of healthcare services through a single platform. The upgraded application also facilitates OPD registration, hospital payments, medication reminders, family health management and access to PM-JAY services.
To strengthen the standardisation layer of India’s digital health ecosystem, the government launched the Common Lab Code of India (CLCI), Bharat Health Terminology Services (BHTS) and the Drug Registry. These initiatives aim to establish a common language and standardised frameworks for laboratories, healthcare providers, insurers and digital platforms, enabling seamless exchange and interpretation of health information across the country.
Under the interoperability layer, the government launched the Unified Health Interface (UHI) and the National Health Claims Exchange (NHCX) for claims processing. The NHCX is expected to facilitate standardised and paperless exchange of health claims information between healthcare providers and insurers, reducing administrative burden and improving the efficiency of claims settlement processes.
Several application-layer solutions were also unveiled, including the upgraded Ayushman App, Ayushman Sarthi, a WhatsApp-based chatbot for PM-JAY beneficiaries, CDAC e-Sushrut Clinic, and the Insurance Plan FHIR Object Creator. These platforms are expected to improve citizen access to healthcare services, simplify beneficiary interactions and promote interoperability across digital health systems.
The launch of these digital initiatives is expected to further strengthen India’s Digital Public Infrastructure for Health by enabling a more connected, efficient and patient-centric healthcare ecosystem, in line with the government’s vision of accessible, affordable and inclusive healthcare for all.
