A 35-year-old man, Ujjawal Chaudhary, died on June 2 following complications after undergoing robotic hernia surgery at Yashoda Super Speciality Hospital in Kaushambi, Ghaziabad. His family has accused the hospital of medical negligence.
Ujjawal was admitted on May 26 for what was expected to be a routine one-hour surgery, but the procedure lasted over four hours. The family alleges that doctors later admitted a bowel injury occurred during surgery but initially claimed it was minor and had been treated.
The next day, Ujjawal complained of severe abdominal pain, bloating, and difficulty breathing. A second surgery on May 29 revealed a 22mm rupture in his intestine and internal leakage. Despite being moved to the ICU and placed on ventilator support, his condition deteriorated due to infection and multiple organ failure. He passed away on June 2.
The family has filed a formal complaint with the Chief Medical Officer, and a probe has been ordered. A hospital spokesperson stated, “The patient remained stable immediately following the surgery. However, during the post-operative recovery on May 29, he developed breathing difficulties and abdominal bloating. After thorough evaluation, he was promptly moved to the ICU for close monitoring. Despite comprehensive investigations and timely medical intervention, the patient’s condition worsened.
A second major abdominal surgery was performed the same day due to perforation peritonitis. Following the procedure, he was placed on ventilator support in the ICU, but his condition became increasingly critical due to complications such as infection and multiple organ failure. Despite continuous expert care and aggressive treatment, his condition deteriorated, and he sadly passed away on June 2 at 1:31 am.”
