A new integrated medical education and healthcare campus has been inaugurated in Hubballi with the opening of KLE JGMM Medical College and KLE Hospital and Medical Research Centre, adding 250 MBBS seats and a 1,200-bed hospital to North Karnataka’s healthcare infrastructure.
Developed over nearly 50 acres at Gabbur Cross, the campus represents an investment of around INR 700 crore and has more than 30 lakh square feet of built-up area. The facility combines medical education, clinical training, specialised healthcare and research services.
Union Minister for Education Pralhad Joshi inaugurated the campus on September 19. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also visited the facility and highlighted its capacity of 250 MBBS seats and 1,200 hospital beds. Of the total beds, 300 have been earmarked for economically disadvantaged patients.
The hospital provides a range of general and super-speciality services, including cardiology, neurology, neurosurgery, gastroenterology, nephrology, organ transplantation, urology, oncology and endocrinology.
Its clinical infrastructure includes 24-hour emergency and trauma care, dialysis services, digital X-ray, high-resolution CT scanning, ultrasonography and laboratory services.
The campus has also incorporated technology-enabled learning and training infrastructure. KLE officials have highlighted the use of artificial intelligence in the hospital setup, along with an AI-enabled skills laboratory for training students in emergency care. Digital classrooms, simulation facilities and modern laboratories are also part of the campus.
KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research Chancellor Dr Prabhakar Kore said the hospital has been equipped with modern technology and supported by doctors trained through fellowships in India and abroad.
The medical college received National Medical Commission approval in 2021 with an initial annual intake of 150 MBBS students. The intake has subsequently been increased to 250 seats, with KLE also planning to expand postgraduate medical education across various departments.
KLE Hospital and Medical Research Centre began services in Hubballi in January 2025, initially providing emergency and outpatient care, with services expanded subsequently.
The new campus is expected to serve as an integrated centre for medical education, specialised healthcare, clinical training and medical research in the region.
