Informa Markets India has rolled out a high-impact healthcare CSR programme by contributing diagnostic equipment worth ₹50 lakh to a major municipal hospital in Mumbai an intervention expected to help patients save more than ₹100 crore in medical costs every year.
Under the initiative, the B2B exhibitions company donated a chemiluminescence immunoassay (CLIA) analyser to Dr R. N. Cooper Municipal General Hospital, also known as Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray (HBT) Medical College & Hospital. The hospital is an important tertiary government healthcare facility catering to the western suburbs of Mumbai.
The CSR project was carried out in collaboration with Child Help Foundation, a pan-India non-governmental organisation working in the areas of healthcare, education, nutrition and community development.
Expanding Access to Cost-Effective Diagnostics
The CLIA analyser is a sophisticated, fully automated diagnostic platform used for identifying low-level biomarkers, including hormones, tumour markers, infectious disease indicators and reproductive health parameters. With its high precision, quick processing time and ability to manage large testing volumes, the technology is well suited to high-footfall public hospitals.
In private diagnostic centres, CLIA-based tests generally cost between ₹1,200 and ₹2,500. Following the installation of the analyser at Cooper Hospital, these tests can now be provided at a significantly lower cost of ₹150–₹200, translating into a reduction of nearly 85–90 per cent for patients.
Considering the hospital’s patient load, the initiative is estimated to result in annual savings of ₹120–₹240 crore for economically disadvantaged populations, highlighting the substantial social impact of the ₹50 lakh CSR investment.
Enhancing Public Healthcare Capacity
Managed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Dr R. N. Cooper Municipal General Hospital operates as a key emergency, trauma and referral centre, while also serving as a teaching hospital under HBT Medical College.
The hospital offers comprehensive multi-specialty services, including general medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, orthopaedics, psychiatry and pulmonary medicine. These are supported by specialised facilities such as a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), blood bank, burns unit and diagnostic laboratories.
With the addition of the CLIA analyser, the hospital is expected to shorten diagnostic turnaround times, improve clinical decision-making and facilitate earlier treatment especially for patients who previously postponed or avoided tests due to high costs.
A Long-Term, Impact-Driven CSR Approach
The programme reflects Informa Markets India’s CSR philosophy of creating lasting impact by strengthening core healthcare systems rather than offering temporary assistance.
Yogesh Mudras, Managing Director, Informa Markets in India, said the company views CSR as most effective when it supports sustainable infrastructure development. He emphasised that lowering diagnostic costs at the initial stage of care helps ensure timely treatment and delivers widespread benefits to thousands of patients each year.
Informa Markets India continues to align its CSR initiatives with the sectors it operates in, focusing on improving access to healthcare, education and opportunities that empower children and communities to build a better future.
