India recorded one of the highest proportions of H1N1 among its influenza-positive samples, with A(H1N1)pdm09 accounting for three-quarters of the detected cases. The strain represented 50% of influenza-positive samples across the wider region.

H1N1 was also the leading strain reported in Bhutan and Thailand, accounting for 97% and 74% of their respective influenza-positive samples.

Higher-risk groups advised to take precautions

Dr Rommel Tickoo, Senior Director, Internal Medicine, Max Hospital, said seasonal influenza can lead to complications, particularly among older adults, pregnant women, young children and people with underlying health conditions.

Preventive measures include influenza vaccination, regular hand and respiratory hygiene, appropriate testing and timely antiviral treatment for patients at higher risk of complications.
