The Delhi government has launched an organ donation campaign under the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’, being conducted from September 17 to October 17. The campaign is aimed at increasing awareness about organ donation and encouraging citizens to register their pledge.
The campaign was launched at an event organised by the Department of Health and Family Welfare at the Delhi Secretariat. An online Organ Donation Pledge Portal was also introduced, allowing citizens to register and submit their pledge digitally. A certificate is generated after completing the registration process.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta participated in the campaign by pledging to donate her organs. She said the initiative was intended to encourage wider public participation and support patients awaiting organ transplants.
As part of efforts to strengthen the organ donation and transplantation system in the capital, the Delhi government has also made the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO) operational at G.B. Pant Hospital. The organisation will coordinate activities related to organ and tissue donation and transplantation across Delhi.
The campaign will include digital outreach, awareness programmes, educational institutions, healthcare facilities and community-level initiatives.
Delhi Health Minister Dr Pankaj Kumar Singh said the dedicated pledge portal was introduced to make organ donation registration more accessible. He also highlighted the operationalisation of SOTTO at G.B. Pant Hospital as a step towards improving coordination of organ and tissue donation activities in the city.
