Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu laid the foundation stone of an ultra-modern critical care block at the new campus of Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College in Jol Sapper, Hamirpur. The project estimated to cost around ₹35 crore is aimed at strengthening critical healthcare services and improving medical infrastructure in the region. Following the foundation-laying ceremony the Chief Minister inspected the newly constructed hospital block, academic block and other ongoing construction works on the campus. He directed officials of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), Public Works Department (PWD) and the medical college administration to ensure timely completion of all projects while maintaining quality standards.
Sukhu instructed authorities to expedite the handover of the hospital and academic blocks to the medical college administration and complete the shifting of various college and hospital departments to the new campus at the earliest. He announced that key departments of the medical college are expected to begin functioning from Jol Sapper during the first week of July. Highlighting the state government’s commitment to healthcare modernization the Chief Minister announced an allocation of ₹150 crore for upgrading laboratories in medical colleges across Himachal Pradesh. The funds will be used to install advanced medical equipment and replace outdated machinery in institutions such as Indira Gandhi Medical College and Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College.
He also said that the state government is undertaking large-scale recruitment of doctors, professors, nurses and other healthcare personnel to address staff shortages and improve healthcare delivery across the state. According to Sukhu, these appointments will help ensure adequate manpower in medical colleges and hospitals while enhancing medical services for the public. During the visit officials briefed the Chief Minister on the progress of construction work at the new campus. Medical College Principal Dr. Ramesh Bharti, senior government officials and local public representatives were present on the occasion.
The development is part of the state government’s broader effort to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in Himachal Pradesh with the new Jol Sapper campus expected to emerge as a major medical and healthcare hub for the region.
