Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a series of welfare and technology-focused measures for the state’s legal fraternity, including cashless insurance coverage of up to ₹5 lakh for practising advocates and tablets for 400 state law officers. The announcements were made during a felicitation ceremony organised by the Allahabad High Court Bar Association in Prayagraj.
Advocate Welfare Measures Expanded
Adityanath said financial assistance under the lawyers’ welfare fund has been increased from ₹1.5 lakh to ₹5 lakh. The age limit for financial assistance to families of deceased advocates has also been raised from 60 to 70 years.
He further announced a cashless insurance scheme of up to ₹5 lakh for practising advocates across Uttar Pradesh.
Tablets for 400 State Law Officers
To strengthen the use of technology in legal work, the Chief Minister announced that 400 state law officers will receive tablets. The devices are intended to help them access case-related information and government documents more efficiently while appearing before courts.
Focus on Digital Justice Infrastructure
The Chief Minister highlighted the government’s efforts to modernise the state’s judicial system. District courts and jails have been equipped with high-speed internet and video conferencing facilities, while digitisation of court records and virtual recording of evidence are being promoted.
He said the prosecution system has also been connected with online platforms to facilitate timely filing of charge sheets and better presentation of scientific evidence.
Integrated Court Complexes Planned
Adityanath said integrated court complexes are being developed with judicial facilities, residential accommodation for judicial officers, lawyers’ chambers and other essential amenities under one roof.
He also announced government support for furniture and equipment in chambers being constructed for more than 10,000 lawyers under the multi-level parking and chamber complex.
Call for a Future-Ready Legal System
The Chief Minister urged lawyers to prepare for emerging areas of litigation, including cybercrime, artificial intelligence, data privacy, e-commerce, fintech, intellectual property and climate litigation.
He stressed that stronger coordination between the Bar and Bench, technology adoption and timely delivery of justice would be essential for maintaining public confidence in the judicial system.
