The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has announced plans to set up a Japanese medical device manufacturing cluster near the Noida International Airport, officials confirmed on Tuesday (October 21).

An MoU between YEIDA and Japanese representatives is expected to be signed during the upcoming visit of a delegation from Japan, marking the next major step in the project’s development.

“This initiative follows a recent high-level meeting with officials from Medical Excellence Japan (MEJ), signaling a major move toward transforming the region into a hub for advanced medical technology,” said Shailendra Bhatia, Officer on Special Duty (OSD), YEIDA, who attended the meeting held last Thursday.

During their visit to the YEIDA office, MEJ officials met with YEIDA CEO R.K. Singh and other senior officers to finalize details of the MoU, which will focus on collaboration in the medical devices sector.

According to YEIDA officials, the agreement will play a crucial role in supporting the upcoming Medical Devices Park in Sector 29, located near the airport. Once signed in the next couple of months, the MoU will pave the way for investments from leading Japanese companies, encouraging them to establish manufacturing and R&D facilities in the park. At least seven firms are expected to commence operations under this collaboration.

The partnership will facilitate technology transfer and knowledge exchange between Japanese and Indian firms, while also opening export opportunities for medical devices produced in India particularly targeting the Japanese healthcare market.

“This collaboration with MEJ is a milestone for both the Medical Devices Park and the ‘Make in India’ initiative. It will drive innovation, enhance the healthcare manufacturing ecosystem, and position the region as a major global hub,” said R.K. Singh, CEO, YEIDA.

The official signing of the MoU is scheduled for next month, during a visit by senior MEJ representatives. Following the signing, a delegation of Japanese medical device manufacturers will tour the park, engage with Indian companies, and explore joint venture and co-manufacturing opportunities, officials added.
