In a significant boost to Uttar Pradesh’s digital healthcare transformation, AHM & Dufferin Hospital, Kanpur, has become the state’s first government hospital to achieve 100% online admission and discharge of patients under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).
The achievement marks a major step toward creating a fully digital and paperless healthcare ecosystem, enabling faster patient processing, improved record management, and seamless access to healthcare services.
Hospital officials said the transition was completed within just one week without disrupting routine clinical operations. During this period, the hospital successfully processed 359 online admissions and 350 online discharges through its Hospital Management Information System (HMIS), while also conducting 1,258 laboratory investigations digitally.
The initiative is expected to reduce paperwork, enhance operational efficiency, improve accuracy of patient records, and strengthen continuity of care through digitally accessible health information.
A key highlight of the transition has been the growing adoption of the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA). According to the hospital, nearly 75 percent of patients have been registered for ABHA IDs, helping create a stronger foundation for interoperable digital health records.
Beyond admission and discharge services, the hospital has expanded digitalization across multiple departments. Staff members have been trained on the Pharmacy Module, and the hospital has launched the Emergency OPD Prescription Module, enabling electronic prescription generation and more streamlined medicine dispensing processes.
Healthcare experts view the achievement as an important model for other government hospitals in Uttar Pradesh seeking to accelerate ABDM implementation and improve patient experience through technology-driven healthcare delivery.
Located near Bara Chauraha in Kanpur, AHM & Dufferin Hospital is one of the state’s prominent government healthcare institutions, particularly known for its maternal health, obstetrics, and gynaecology services. The hospital’s latest digital milestone underscores the growing momentum of healthcare digitization across India’s public health system.
