Apollo Hospitals has appointed Upasana Kamineni Konidela as Director – Projects, with the new role covering the planning and delivery of hospital projects as the healthcare group advances an estimated ₹8,600-crore expansion programme across India.
Upasana, who currently serves as Vice Chairperson of Corporate Social Responsibility at Apollo Hospitals Group, will work with the organisation’s leadership, clinical teams and project partners on new hospitals, expansions and upgrades of existing facilities.
Her responsibilities will also include maintaining consistent design standards across patient-facing spaces. The focus areas include clearer signage and wayfinding, easier navigation, efficient clinical spaces and improved comfort for patients and their families. She will also support project coordination, reporting and execution from the design stage through commissioning.
₹8,600 Crore Expansion Programme
Apollo Hospitals’ current expansion programme has an estimated total project cost of around ₹8,600 crore, including approximately ₹1,565 crore for brownfield expansion projects at existing facilities. The programme combines capacity expansion in established markets with new hospital facilities in growing urban centres.
The identified locations include Hyderabad, Delhi NCR, Chennai, Mumbai and Bengaluru, along with Lucknow, Varanasi, Indore, Guwahati and Ranchi, among other locations. Apollo has not disclosed the specific projects and budgets that will fall directly under Upasana’s mandate.
Focus on Hospital Design and Patient Experience
In her new role, Upasana is expected to work with project teams on hospital layouts and patient spaces, with emphasis on navigation, clinical efficiency and the experience of patients and families.
The appointment comes as Apollo expands its physical healthcare network, with the group combining new facilities with modernisation and capacity additions at existing hospitals.
Upasana said the role would carry forward the vision of Apollo founder Dr Prathap C. Reddy, particularly the objective of making world-class healthcare accessible in India.
