UP’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to establish integrated AYUSH colleges in every division of the state. These institutions will offer all major AYUSH disciplines Ayurveda, Unani, and Homeopathy on a single campus.
During a high-level review meeting, the Chief Minister stated that this initiative will bolster both AYUSH medical systems and health-based education in the state. According to an official statement, he emphasized that the government is working in a mission mode to expand the reach of AYUSH practices. He instructed that Naturopathy and Yoga Centres must be made mandatory in all such institutions.
He further directed that all sanctioned medical and educational positions in these colleges should be filled promptly. Additionally, he called for the establishment of health and wellness centres in every district, which could be managed by the government or operated under the Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) model.
Regarding AYUSH University, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of high-quality infrastructure, including labs, libraries, and faculty. He also urged a thorough assessment of private AYUSH colleges and hospitals to ensure quality standards are maintained.
Adityanath highlighted the importance of Panchakarma therapy in Ayurveda, describing it as a powerful treatment for serious illnesses. Given the growing global interest in AYUSH, he underscored the need to present India’s traditional medicine systems in a scientific manner to establish their global credibility.
As part of preparations for International Yoga Day, he instructed that events be held across all divisions, districts, municipal bodies, gram panchayats, and government departments in the state. He also directed that trained yoga instructors be appointed in every district to ensure proper training for the public.
Furthermore, he asked officials to sign MoUs with Ayurvedic medicine manufacturers such as Dabur, Baidyanath, and Patanjali to guarantee a consistent supply of essential medicines at AYUSH hospitals.
During the meeting, AYUSH department officials informed the Chief Minister that there are currently 2,212 Ayurvedic, 259 Unani, and 1,598 Homeopathic medical institutions operating in Uttar Pradesh, providing crucial health services to the public.
Adityanath emphasized the need for continuous monitoring of these institutions to improve efficiency and ensure adequate resources. He concluded by saying that AYUSH represents not just India’s traditional medical heritage but also a holistic approach to health. All stakeholders must work together in a coordinated and timely manner to position Uttar Pradesh as a national and global leader in AYUSH.
