The Uttar Pradesh government has initiated action against 16 empanelled hospitals in Bijnor district following inspections under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY). The inspections were conducted by the State Agency for Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (SACHiS) as part of an enforcement drive directed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
According to SACHiS CEO Archana Verma, a three-member special team carried out surprise inspections at 20 empanelled hospitals in Bijnor without prior notice.
The inspections identified instances of non-compliance with the scheme’s prescribed standards at several facilities. Authorities reported deficiencies in adherence to Standard Treatment Guidelines (STGs) and quality standards at 16 hospitals.
Among the hospitals where irregularities were found, six have been issued suspension notices and their payments have been withheld. The remaining 10 hospitals have been served notices seeking explanations for the reported deficiencies.
SACHiS stated that penalties will be calculated in accordance with the scheme’s provisions, with fines of up to 10 times the applicable amount proposed where violations are confirmed.
The reported irregularities include repeated admissions of patients from the same family, booking ICU beds without medical necessity, and other deviations from the scheme’s guidelines.
In addition, notices have been issued to the audit agency involved, while the District Programme Coordinator has been served a show-cause notice regarding the matter.
