The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has approved the establishment of two 100-bed Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) hospitals in Gorakhpur and Moradabad, along with an ESIC Medical College in Varanasi. The projects aim to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and expand medical services for workers covered under the ESIC scheme.

As part of the initiative, the Uttar Pradesh government will provide land to the Government of India either free of cost or at concessional rates for the development of these facilities.

Officials said the projects are expected to enhance access to quality healthcare, create employment opportunities for healthcare professionals and support the social security and welfare of insured workers and their families.

Moradabad and Gorakhpur to get new ESIC hospitals

A 100-bed ESIC hospital will be developed in Moradabad on 2.025 hectares of state government land, which will be allotted free of cost. The facility is expected to cater to nearly 93,600 insured workers and around 3.56 lakh of their dependent family members.

The hospital will be funded and constructed by the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation, ensuring no additional financial liability for the state government.

In Gorakhpur, another 100-bed ESIC hospital will be built on over five acres of land in the Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA) area. The state government has approved the land at a concessional price of ₹2,000 per square metre, significantly lower than the prevailing rate of ₹8,720 per square metre.

Both hospitals are expected to generate employment for doctors, nurses, paramedical professionals and administrative staff while strengthening healthcare services in the region.

ESIC Medical College approved for Varanasi

The Cabinet has also sanctioned the allotment of approximately 13 acres of land in Varanasi for setting up an ESIC Medical College, which is expected to be developed at an estimated cost of ₹800 crore.

Labour and Employment Minister Anil Rajbhar said that half of the MBBS seats at the proposed medical college will be reserved for the children of ESIC-insured workers. Most of the remaining seats will be allocated to students from Uttar Pradesh, while the rest will be filled through central and state government quotas.

The minister added that the institution may later expand its academic offerings to include nursing and paramedical programmes.

According to the state government, the medical college will serve around 1.45 lakh ESIC beneficiaries and nearly 5.5 lakh of their family members across Varanasi and adjoining districts.
