The Technology Development Board (TDB), under the Department of Science and Technology, has entered into an agreement with Primary Healthtech Pvt. Ltd. to support the project titled IoT-enabled Point-of-care Blood Testing Device for Affordable and Accessible Healthcare powered by AI/ML algorithms.
The startup, founded by IIT Guwahati alumni Sahil Jagnani and Ankit Choudhury, originated from a multidisciplinary effort involving doctors, researchers, entrepreneurs, faculty, and students, all committed to building low-cost diagnostic tools for underserved populations. Their joint research, first backed by BIRAC, resulted in the development of Mobilab a portable, battery-operated clinical chemistry analyzer. The device is IoT-enabled, uses AI/ML algorithms, and can currently test more than 25 health parameters related to the kidney, liver, heart, vitamin levels, and cancer.
The company owns a patent titled A transmittance-based system/kit for point-of-care quantification transferred from IIT Guwahati, and has filed six more patents covering innovations in assay development, integrated mixers, centrifuges, and optical systems. Mobilab has already been tested on 10,000 patients and recently obtained a CDSCO manufacturing license.
The new phase of the project will work on advancing the present prototype (M1) so it can perform five tests simultaneously, cutting down patient waiting times, while also setting up facilities for large-scale manufacturing. The upgraded Mobilab will offer a wider range of tests including Hemoglobin, Creatinine, Bilirubin, Cholesterol, Triglycerides, Uric Acid, Glucose, and GGT, among others.
Highlighting the initiative, Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary of TDB, said:
“Providing quality healthcare in remote and rural regions is a national priority. This project not only addresses issues of affordability and accessibility but also showcases India’s strength in developing indigenous, AI-driven diagnostic solutions for primary healthcare.”
Expressing their gratitude, the founders of Primary Healthtech Pvt. Ltd. remarked:
“TDB’s support will help us scale faster from lab-based innovation to real-world deployment. With Mobilab, we aim to bridge the healthcare divide for rural and underserved communities, bringing advanced diagnostics directly to the point of care across India.”
