A team from the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) conducted a surprise inspection at the district hospital in Bareilly on May 14, triggering heightened activity within the health department. The team carried out a detailed review of healthcare services, cleanliness, patient facilities, and safety arrangements across the hospital premises.

The inspection, which began in the morning and continued for several hours, covered almost all major departments of the hospital. Officials were pulled up over minor shortcomings and directions were issued to rectify the deficiencies within a stipulated time frame.

The NQAS team first inspected the Outpatient Department (OPD), where they reviewed patient registration systems, doctors’ availability, and crowd management arrangements. The team later visited the pediatric ward, Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre (NRC), IPD, emergency ward, and wards located in the old hospital complex.

During the visit, the team interacted with patients to gather feedback regarding treatment, availability of medicines, cleanliness and staff behaviour. Patients were also asked about the quality of facilities being provided at the hospital.

The inspection team also reviewed the operation theatre, radiology, and pathology departments. Officials examined the condition and functioning of medical equipment, maintenance of medical records, availability of medicines and infection control measures.

Hospital staff members were questioned to assess whether prescribed healthcare standards and protocols were being followed properly. The team also scrutinized record maintenance and documentation processes in various departments.

Special emphasis was laid on cleanliness within the hospital campus, biomedical waste disposal systems, and the condition of fire safety equipment. The team observed that regular inspection of fire extinguishers and improvements in certain arrangements were needed.

Instructions were also issued to improve the functioning of registration counters and medicine distribution centres for the convenience of patients.

Hospital authorities stated that continuous efforts are being made to prepare the district hospital in accordance with NQAS standards. Officials added that improvements are being regularly introduced to provide better healthcare facilities to patients. Department heads, doctors, and other concerned officials remained present during the inspection.
