Chief Minister of Sikkim, Prem Singh Tamang, inaugurated nine newly procured ambulances at the Tashiling Secretariat. The event, organised by the Health & Family Welfare Department, aims to further strengthen emergency healthcare facilities across the state.
The ambulances, sanctioned under the National Health Mission (NHM), have been assigned to district hospitals and will function under the integrated 102/108 Ambulance Services. These services operate round-the-clock, catering to pregnant women, critically ill newborns, and trauma patients. Each Basic Life Support (BLS) vehicle is fully equipped with vital medical devices and emergency kits, staffed by a trained driver and paramedic.
The launch ceremony was attended by Health & Family Welfare and Culture Minister G.T. Dhungel, Secretary of Health & Family Welfare Tshewang Gyachho, and senior officials of the department.
Currently, eight NHM ambulances are operational in the aspirational districts of Gyalshing and Soreng. With the addition of nine more vehicles, the service now ensures ambulance availability across all districts, facilitating faster access to quality emergency care.
This step underscores the Sikkim Government’s sustained efforts to enhance healthcare infrastructure and provide reliable emergency medical support for its citizens.
