The much-awaited Shri Sheetla Mata Devi Medical College and Hospital in Sector 102, Kherki Majra, continues to face significant delays with authorities once again revising its completion deadline marking the sixth such extension since construction began. Originally announced nearly nine years ago, the project has struggled to meet timelines despite repeated assurances. Construction formally began in April 2022 with an initial deadline set for July 2024. However, the schedule has been pushed back multiple times to October 2024, March 2025, April 2025, June 2025 and March 2026 before now being extended to December 31, 2026.

Officials attribute the delays to a mix of factors including restrictions under pollution-control measures such as GRAP along with administrative and logistical hurdles. Despite the setbacks, authorities claim that substantial progress has been made. Around 81% of the construction work has been completed so far. The structural components of both the hospital and medical college buildings are largely finished along with road infrastructure within the campus.

Currently, work is underway on critical installations such as gas pipelines, IT systems and operation theatres. Officials say these finishing stages are key to making the facility operational and are expected to take several more months. The ₹541.82-crore project is spread over more than 30 acres and is designed as a major healthcare hub for Gurugram. Once completed, it will include:

Authorities maintain that all remaining work will be completed within the revised timeline. However, repeated deadline extensions have raised concerns among residents about project execution and accountability. The facility is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening public healthcare infrastructure in the rapidly growing Dwarka Expressway region where demand for medical services has increased sharply in recent years.
