The Supreme Court on June 6 allowed the National Board of Examinations (NBE) to postpone the NEET-PG 2025 exam from June 15 to August 3. A bench of Justices P.K. Mishra and Augustine George Masih accepted the reasons cited by NBE as genuine but expressed concern over the two-month delay.
The Court questioned why such a long extension was needed, especially when the earlier order allowing rescheduling was passed on May 30. The NBE responded that with nearly 2.5 lakh candidates and the need to hold the exam in a single shift across 500 centres, time was required for logistical arrangements, including centre selection and security.
Though skeptical, the bench acknowledged the scale of the task and approved the new date. However, the Court firmly stated that no further extension would be granted, urging the authorities to avoid unnecessary delays that could impact student admissions.
