The Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS), Lucknow, has unveiled an ambitious expansion plan aimed at significantly enhancing its healthcare services. The institute will add a 1,010-bed super-speciality hospital and establish a 350-bed Level-1 Trauma Centre to strengthen emergency and specialised care facilities.

The announcement was made by Prof C.M. Singh, Director of RMLIMS, during a recent event at the institute. The proposed developments are intended to boost patient care capacity and improve access to advanced medical services across the region.

According to the institute, the new trauma centre will be constructed near its second campus on Shaheed Path, becoming only the second Level-1 trauma facility in Uttar Pradesh after the one at King George’s Medical University (KGMU). Reports suggest that the state government has allocated nearly 16,000 square metres of land for the project, which is expected to ease the burden on KGMU’s existing trauma services.

The upcoming trauma centre is designed to provide advanced treatment for patients with critical injuries and other medical emergencies requiring specialised intervention.

Meanwhile, a 100-bed critical care centre is close to completion and is expected to address the growing demand for intensive care facilities. The institute is also constructing hostel accommodations with a total capacity of 888 beds.

As part of the broader expansion programme, RMLIMS plans to develop a 1,010-bed super-speciality hospital that will offer advanced treatment across various disciplines and cater to the increasing need for tertiary healthcare services in the state.

The institute is also preparing to introduce liver transplant and bone marrow transplant services later this year. Officials stated that the necessary infrastructure is already in place and that most of the required equipment has been procured.

Additionally, the much-awaited Gamma Knife facility, which enables precision neurosurgical procedures, is expected to become operational soon. RMLIMS’s neurosciences centre has already demonstrated its advanced capabilities by performing complex procedures such as deep-brain stimulation surgery for Parkinson’s disease.

Emphasising the impact of these projects, Prof Singh said the expansion would improve patient outcomes by ensuring timely treatment, shortening waiting times, and reducing pressure on existing hospitals. He noted that the enhanced infrastructure would enable patients to receive comprehensive care within the state, minimising the need for referrals elsewhere.

The latest plans build on RMLIMS’s recent investments in healthcare infrastructure. Last year, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated projects worth nearly ₹298 crore at the institute, including the state’s first Advanced Neurosciences Centre, the foundation stone for Uttar Pradesh’s first Gamma Knife facility, and the launch of a robotic surgery system.
