Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has directed the implementation of a real-time medicine tracking system across all government hospitals in the state aiming to ensure uninterrupted availability of essential drugs and improve transparency in public healthcare delivery. Chairing a high-level review meeting on healthcare services the Chief Minister instructed officials to maintain real-time digital records of medicine stocks through a centralised portal. The system will allow doctors to check the availability of medicines instantly reducing dependency on external prescriptions and ensuring that patients receive treatment within government facilities.
The Chief Minister made it clear that unnecessary prescriptions for medicines from outside pharmacies will not be tolerated. Doctors have been directed to mention explicitly on OPD slips if any medicine is unavailable in the hospital. Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) will be held accountable for ensuring strict compliance with the new directives. To prevent shortages CMOs have been instructed to inform empanelled suppliers about medicine requirements at least four days in advance. The government has also emphasized the need for continuous monitoring and timely replenishment of stocks stating that any shortage at any level will not be acceptable.
The initiative is aimed at reducing the financial burden on patients who are often forced to purchase medicines from private pharmacies. By ensuring availability within hospitals the government seeks to make healthcare more affordable and accessible particularly for economically weaker sections. Alongside medicine tracking the Chief Minister also reviewed key aspects such as availability of medical equipment, hospital staffing and quality of patient care. Directions were issued to strengthen infrastructure including ensuring CT scan and MRI facilities in all districts and addressing shortages of doctors and paramedical staff.
The move to introduce real-time medicine tracking marks a significant step toward improving efficiency, accountability and transparency in Haryana’s public healthcare system. By addressing medicine shortages and curbing unnecessary external prescriptions , the government aims to enhance patient care and strengthen trust in government hospitals.
