Rainbow Children’s Hospital, one of India’s largest specialised paediatric and perinatal care chains, has announced an ambitious expansion plan to add nearly 900 new beds over the next three years, half of which will come up in the National Capital Region (NCR). The announcement marks a strategic shift for the predominantly south-focused hospital network, which has built its reputation on tertiary and quaternary paediatric care across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.

As per the expansion blueprint, roughly 450 of the 900 beds will be developed in and around Delhi-NCR. This includes a planned 325-bed flagship hub hospital and a 125-bed spoke hospital in Gurugram aimed at addressing north India’s growing demand for specialised children and maternal healthcare.

The balance of the expansion will be spread across multiple cities and growth markets. The pipeline reportedly includes additions in major metropolitan areas such as Bengaluru, Pune, Coimbatore and others. Rainbow will use a mix of greenfield hospitals and an asset-light “hub-and-spoke” model to facilitate expansion with a total estimated investment of around ₹900 crore.

According to Dr. Ramesh Kancharla, Chairman and MD of Rainbow, the move is driven by a growing need for dedicated paediatric and maternal care facilities in underserved and high-birth-rate regions, especially across North India. “NCR is the future of children’s healthcare for North India,” he said. The expansion is expected to strengthen their network and help meet the rising demand for specialized children’s hospitals in both urban and rapidly growing suburban areas.
