Prudential Health India has officially commenced operations in the country, marking Prudential’s entry into India’s growing standalone health insurance market. Backed by Prudential and HCL Group, the insurer is adopting a technology-first, omnichannel approach that combines an AI-enabled digital platform with an agency network and access to more than 12,000 hospitals.
Prudential Health Receives Regulatory Approval
Operating under the name Prudential HCL Health Insurance, the company received its Certificate of Registration on July 1, 2026, enabling it to begin operations in India.
The company is entering a rapidly expanding health insurance market, which recorded approximately $16 billion in gross written premiums in FY2026.
AI-Powered Platform Meets Agency Network
Prudential Health India said its customer model combines face-to-face assistance through an agency network with an AI-enabled direct-to-consumer digital platform.
The digital platform is designed to help customers identify appropriate health insurance coverage, manage their policies and access support throughout their healthcare journey.
The company said its technology-first strategy is intended to complement traditional insurance distribution rather than replace it.
Access to More Than 12,000 Hospitals
At the start of its operations, Prudential Health India has access to a network of more than 12,000 hospitals, giving customers a broad healthcare provider network.
The insurer aims to provide customers with multiple channels to interact with the company, ranging from personalised guidance through agents to digitally enabled policy management and support services.
Focus on Simpler and More Accessible Healthcare
Naveen Tahilyani, Regional CEO, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, India, Africa; Group Agency and Health, Prudential plc, said the company aims to build a differentiated health insurance business focused on a simpler, more accessible and seamless customer experience.
He added that combining Prudential’s insurance and health capabilities with HCL Group’s technology and healthcare expertise would help make healthcare more accessible and enable more Indian families to navigate their healthcare journeys with greater confidence.
Supporting ‘Insurance for All by 2047’
Amit Dave, MD & CEO Designate, Prudential Health India, said the company intends to provide intelligent and proactive support before, during and after a health issue.
He said the insurer remains committed to supporting the Indian government’s vision of “Insurance for All by 2047.”
Omnichannel Model at the Core
Prudential Health India’s operating model brings together digital engagement, AI-enabled support and traditional insurance distribution. Through this omnichannel approach, customers can choose between personal advice and digital services depending on their needs.
The company is positioning the model as a way to make health insurance easier to understand, access and manage while supporting customers across different stages of their healthcare journey.
