The Board of Trustees of the Lata Mangeshkar Medical Foundation has decided to rename its upcoming hospital project in Nandoshi as the ‘Lata-Asha Mangeshkar Institute of Medical Sciences’, instead of the earlier proposed name.

A formal programme to mark the announcement will be held on April 16 at the project site on Sinhagad Road. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will attend as the chief guest, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar. The event will be presided over by Mohan Bhagwat, chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Members of the Mangeshkar and Bhosle families are also expected to be present.

The announcement was made by Hridaynath Mangeshkar, chairman and trustee of Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, during a press conference. Medical Director Dhananjay Kelkar stated that naming the institution after both Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosale would serve as a fitting tribute to their immense contribution to Indian music.

Following the recent demise of Asha Bhosale on April 12, the programme schedule has been revised. Along with the foundation stone laying ceremony, a condolence meeting will also be held in her memory.

The proposed 1,000-bed hospital is envisioned as a large, multi-specialty healthcare hub, with each floor dedicated to specific medical services. The campus will include specialised wings such as psychiatry and rehabilitation, as well as a fully equipped veterinary hospital. Trustees have also expressed plans to develop it into one of Asia’s largest hospitals, along with an integrated musical museum.

Organisers described the event as a meaningful initiative that blends a renewed commitment to healthcare with a heartfelt musical homage to a legendary legacy.
