Prateek Yadav, the stepbrother of Akhilesh Yadav and husband of BJP leader Aparna Yadav, passed away in Lucknow on April 13 morning at the age of 38 after battling several serious health complications and was cremated on April 14 at Baikunth Dham, Lucknow.

According to Civil Hospital director Dr GP Gupta, doctors were rushed to Prateek Yadav’s residence around 5 am after his condition worsened. He was taken to the hospital and declared dead at 5.55 am.
Doctors at Medanta Hospital said Prateek Yadav had been admitted multiple times over the past year for treatment related to severe medical conditions. Sources familiar with his health history said he had been suffering from pulmonary embolism, hypertension, anxiety-related disorders and recurring heart complications, requiring repeated hospitalisation and close medical supervision.
His most recent hospital admission reportedly took place on April 29 after he experienced severe breathlessness and respiratory distress. Following treatment and temporary stabilisation, he was discharged.

Dr Ruchita Sharma, Associate Director of the Department of Medicine at Medanta Lucknow, said Prateek Yadav had recently developed pulmonary embolism, a life-threatening condition caused by blood clots blocking arteries in the lungs. She stated that the blockage affected his heart function and described the condition as extremely critical and high-risk. According to the doctor, he was already taking blood thinners and regular medication for high blood pressure.
The postmortem report later identified cardiopulmonary collapse, or sudden cardiac arrest, as the immediate cause of death. The report also mentioned excessive pulmonary thromboembolism. Hospital authorities said the exact medical cause would be determined after detailed examination, while sources confirmed no signs of foul play were found in the initial autopsy findings. Viscera samples have been preserved for further investigation.
Prateek Yadav was the son of late Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and Sadhna Gupta. Unlike other members of the Yadav family, he remained away from active politics and focused on business ventures in the real estate and fitness sectors.
An alumnus of the University of Leeds, he operated a gym in Lucknow called “The Fitness Planet” and was also associated with animal welfare work through the organisation Jeev Ashray, which rescued and cared for stray dogs.
