Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate several major healthcare infrastructure projects at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) on July 17, PGIMER Director Dr Vivek Lal has announced. The projects include the Advanced Mother and Child Centre, the Advanced Neurosciences Centre, and a new Critical Care Block, aimed at strengthening tertiary healthcare services and expanding access to specialised treatment.

The new facilities are expected to significantly enhance PGIMER’s clinical, academic and research capabilities while addressing the growing demand for advanced maternal, neonatal, paediatric and neurological care. As one of the country’s leading referral institutions, PGIMER serves patients from across northern India, and the expansion is expected to improve both capacity and quality of care.

The Advanced Mother and Child Centre will provide comprehensive care for high-risk pregnancies, newborns and children, while the Advanced Neurosciences Centre is designed to support specialised diagnosis, treatment and management of complex neurological disorders. The newly built Critical Care Block will increase intensive care capacity, enabling the institute to manage critically ill patients more effectively.

According to Dr Lal, these projects represent a significant step in strengthening India’s public healthcare infrastructure and reflect the government’s continued focus on developing specialised centres of excellence. Their inauguration is expected to mark an important milestone in expanding advanced medical services and improving patient access to high-quality healthcare in the region.
