Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17 launched the Swastha Nari Sashakt Parivar initiative, described as the country’s largest health outreach programme for women and children. The launch took place in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh.
The programme will organise more than 10 lakh health camps between September 17 and October 2 across government health facilities, ranging from Ayushman Arogya Mandirs to tertiary hospitals. Some private hospitals will also participate.
The focus of the initiative is on screening women for health conditions such as anaemia, hypertension, diabetes, cancer, and sickle cell disease. Free diagnostic tests and medicines will be provided at the camps, and those requiring further treatment will be linked to care through Ayushman cards under the Suraksha Kavach cover.
The initiative is jointly led by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Women and Child Development. Officials said it aims to strengthen screening, early detection, and treatment of non-communicable and communicable diseases, while also promoting maternal, child, and adolescent health through antenatal care, immunisation, nutrition support, menstrual hygiene, and mental health awareness.
At the same event, the Prime Minister launched the Adi Karmyogi Abhiyan, a set of activities in tribal regions focused on health, education, nutrition, and skill development.
