Renowned interventional cardiologist and Padma Bhushan awardee Dr Tejas Madhusudan Patel has been appointed as the new President of AIIMS Jodhpur. Known globally for pioneering work in transradial interventions, robotic PCI, and distant telerobotic PCI, Dr Patel has revolutionised modern heart treatment.
He has led the Apex Heart Institute, Ahmedabad, since 2012 and earlier served as Professor & Head of Cardiology at SVPIMSR, Gujarat University. His international roles include Professor of Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University (USA) and Visiting Professor at Mayo Clinic.
A dedicated trainer, Dr Patel has taught over 8,000 cardiologists worldwide through the TRICO course over the past 18 years and authored three acclaimed books on cardiology techniques. His research record includes over 330 publications, multiple textbook chapters, and landmark innovations like the PAPA and VASO catheters used globally.
Honoured with the Padma Shri (2015) and Padma Bhushan (2024), Dr Patel is also a fellow of leading cardiology societies in India, the USA, and Europe. His techniques have made coronary interventions safer and reduced hospital stays from several days to under two.
