Japan-based Omron Healthcare has commenced full-scale production at its first manufacturing facility in India, located near Chennai, with plans to increase annual production capacity to 3 million blood pressure monitors by 2028. The company also aims to establish Chennai as a manufacturing hub for international markets in the coming years.
The facility is part of Omron Healthcare’s strategy to strengthen its presence in India and expand access to home blood pressure monitoring devices.
Chennai Facility Begins Full-Scale Operations
The approximately 24,000-square-metre manufacturing facility began full-scale operations in October 2026. It currently operates five production lines manufacturing five models of blood pressure monitors specifically for Indian consumers.
According to Ayumu Okada, President and CEO of Omron Healthcare, the entire production output will initially be directed towards the domestic market.
The company has not disclosed the investment made in the facility or its projected production volume for the first year.
India Identified as a Key Growth Market
Omron Healthcare sees considerable growth opportunities in India’s home blood pressure monitoring segment, particularly given the country’s high burden of hypertension.
According to company estimates, fewer than 5% of Indian households regularly use home blood pressure monitors, indicating significant potential for wider adoption.
Omron Healthcare estimated that it held approximately 40% of India’s home blood pressure monitor market in 2025. India contributed around 3% of the company’s global sales in FY2025, which ended in March 2026.
Focus on Domestic Component Sourcing
The Chennai facility undertakes assembly through to finished blood pressure monitors, using manufacturing technologies and quality-control expertise developed at Omron’s operations in Japan and Vietnam.
The company is working to increase the proportion of locally sourced components by identifying and developing relationships with Indian suppliers, supporting the government’s Make in India initiative.
Local production is also expected to improve logistics efficiency and strengthen the availability of devices in the Indian market. However, Omron has not announced any specific reductions in retail prices.
Plans to Supply International Markets
While the Chennai facility will initially serve Indian consumers, Omron Healthcare intends to develop it into an export-oriented manufacturing base over the medium to long term.
The expansion is expected to strengthen the company’s global manufacturing network and improve supply-chain flexibility.
Alongside manufacturing expansion, Omron Healthcare plans to promote home blood pressure monitoring through awareness programmes and collaboration with healthcare professionals, with a focus on improving access to monitoring devices across India.
