The National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) has committed ₹380 crore to set up a new multispecialty hospital block at the Tata Memorial’s Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research & Education in Cancer (ACTREC) campus in Navi Mumbai. The facility will house a state-of-the-art bone marrow transplant (BMT) unit with 60 beds, making it one of the largest such centres in the country. The project will span about 2.4 lakh square feet across 11 floors.
Originally approved by the NSE board in March 2023, the plan received environmental clearance in September this year followed by a commencement certificate from City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO )in early October. The hospital block is expected to become operational by July 2027. Once completed, it will enable ACTREC to expand its bone marrow transplant capacity from the current five beds to 60, with the ability to carry out around 600 transplants annually. The centre also anticipates managing close to 1.3 lakh outpatient visits every year.
NSE’s support is part of its corporate social responsibility initiative and is aimed at making advanced cancer treatments more accessible and affordable. According to officials at Tata Memorial Centre, the new block will not only expand BMT facilities but also provide comprehensive care for cancer patients with associated conditions such as cardiac, pulmonary, neurological and renal ailments areas where patients currently have to seek treatment outside the institution.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, NSE’s MD and CEO Ashish Kumar Chauhan underlined the long-term impact the project is expected to have on cancer care in India. Tata Memorial Centre director Dr. Sudeep Gupta described it as a much-needed expansion that will bring high-end medical services closer to patients. Senior officials from ACTREC, including director Dr. Pankaj Chaturvedi and deputy director Dr. Navin Khattry, who leads the BMT programme, also highlighted the facility’s potential to significantly cut waiting times and make life-saving treatments more affordable for thousands of families.
