The National Medical Commission (NMC) has extended the deadline by three weeks for medical colleges and institutions to update and correct National Medical Register (NMR) or State Medical Register (SMR) numbers of faculty and other teaching personnel on the Aadhaar Enabled Biometric Attendance System (AEBAS) portal.
In an Office Memorandum dated October 5, 2026, the NMC said that several institutions had not yet completed the required updates despite its earlier directive issued on September 3. The Commission also found instances where Nodal Officers had entered incorrect NMR/SMR numbers on the portal.
The September directive required medical colleges to update registration numbers for Medical Faculty Members, Junior Residents, Senior Residents, Tutors and Demonstrators in their AEBAS profiles within one month.
The NMC said the requirement is linked to provisions under the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Minimum Standard Requirements and MARB regulations, which provide for periodic and digitally verified assessment of teaching staff.
Attendance may be rejected for incorrect or missing entries
The Commission has warned that failure to update the registration details, or entering incorrect numbers, could lead to the automated blocking and rejection of daily attendance through the NMC system.
NMC said such non-compliance could also affect the compliance status of medical colleges during assessments and inspections.
The Commission has now directed Deans, Principals and Directors of all medical colleges and institutions to ensure that the required details are updated accurately within the additional three-week period.
Nodal Officers requiring technical assistance have been advised to contact the official NMC helpdesk.
