The National Health Authority (NHA) has announced that the Scan and Register Service under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) has crossed 25 crore OPD registrations since its launch in October 2022.
The service allows patients to complete outpatient department (OPD) registration digitally by scanning a QR code at participating healthcare facilities using an ABDM-enabled Personal Health Record (PHR) application. After providing consent, patients can share their ABHA profile details with the healthcare facility, enabling registration without manual paperwork.
According to NHA, the service is currently operational across more than 30,800 healthcare facilities in 36 States and Union Territories and 756 districts. Of these facilities, 24,323 are in the public sector and 6,481 are private healthcare institutions.
The authority stated that nearly four lakh patients use the Scan and Register service every day for OPD registration. The system is designed to reduce waiting time at registration counters and streamline patient registration processes.
State-wise data released by NHA shows that Bihar has recorded the highest number of Scan and Register transactions, with over 7.30 crore registrations, followed by Uttar Pradesh (4.09 crore), Andhra Pradesh (3.38 crore) and Jammu & Kashmir (1.39 crore).
Among government healthcare institutions, AIIMS New Delhi reported the highest number of registrations through the platform, with more than 54.29 lakh registrations. It was followed by AIIMS Bhopal (29.10 lakh), AIIMS Bhubaneswar (23.93 lakh), AIIMS Patna (19.62 lakh) and AIIMS Raipur (18.63 lakh).
NHA CEO Dr. Sunil Kumar Barnwal said the milestone reflects increasing adoption of digital health services and highlights the role of ABDM in facilitating digital healthcare delivery.
The Scan and Register service has been implemented across various healthcare facilities, including AIIMS institutions, central and state government hospitals, medical colleges, district hospitals, community health centres, ESIC hospitals, railway hospitals, trust hospitals and private healthcare facilities.
The National Health Authority said it will continue expanding ABDM-enabled digital health services to improve access to digital records and streamline healthcare delivery across the country.
