In the wake of the tragic stampede at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj during the early hours of Wednesday, healthcare facilities swiftly mobilized to provide emergency medical aid to the injured. The stampede, which occurred ahead of the ‘Amrit Snan’ on ‘Mauni Amavasya,’ resulted in 30 casualties, prompting an urgent response from medical teams on the ground.
Emergency Medical Assistance
- Rapid Deployment of Medical Teams: As soon as reports of the stampede emerged, emergency medical teams stationed at the Mela area were activated to provide immediate care.
- On-Site First Aid Centers: Several makeshift medical camps set up across the venue provided primary treatment to those with minor injuries.
- Ambulance Services: A green corridor was swiftly created to facilitate the rapid transfer of critically injured individuals to designated hospitals.
Hospital Care and Treatment
- Central Hospital in Mela Area: At least 30 injured women are currently undergoing treatment at the central hospital established within the Kumbh Mela premises.
- Major Hospitals on Alert: The administration directed Sassoon General Hospital, YCM Hospital, and other key medical facilities to remain on high alert and allocate additional beds for emergency admissions.
- 90 Injured Treated: According to DIG Kumbh Mela Vaibhav Krishna, 90 injured devotees were transported to hospitals for further medical care. Despite these efforts, 30 lives were lost.
Government and Administrative Response
- CM’s Assurance on Medical Aid: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath confirmed that the situation was under control and assured that hospitals were providing the best possible medical care to the injured.
- Avoiding Overcrowding at Medical Facilities: Devotees were advised to seek treatment at the nearest medical camps and hospitals to prevent excessive strain on a single facility.
- Strengthening Healthcare Infrastructure: In anticipation of a large crowd, the Uttar Pradesh government had reinforced medical preparedness with additional healthcare units, ambulances, and emergency response teams ahead of the Maha Kumbh.
