Max Healthcare Institute Ltd is ramping up its expansion plans to cater to rising demand from “aspirational India” while strengthening its presence in the fast-growing medical tourism sector. The company aims to scale its bed capacity to 10,000 over the next three to four years, according to Chairman and Managing Director Abhay Soi.

As part of this push, the hospital chain has opened a new 400-bed tower at its Max Smart Super Speciality Hospital in Saket, New Delhi. It has also added a 300-bed facility in Mumbai and a 200-bed unit in Mohali, Punjab, with another 500 beds set to come up in Gurugram within the next six to seven months.

The company plans to increase its total capacity from around 5,200 beds last year to nearly 6,700 by the end of the current financial year. Earlier, it had announced a ₹6,000 crore investment to add 3,700 beds by 2028, while future expansion worth ₹4,000-₹5,000 crore will be funded through internal accruals.

Soi said the new facilities are designed to serve both domestic patients and international medical travellers. Currently, the network treats patients from about 145 countries, with its medical tourism segment growing at 25% annually.

He noted that India is witnessing rising demand from regions such as Africa, Eastern Europe, and countries like Sudan, but added that the country must continue strengthening infrastructure to compete with global medical tourism hubs like Turkey and Thailand.

The new Saket tower includes over 120 critical care beds, 10 modular operation theatres, and advanced cath labs, enabling specialised care across cardiac sciences, oncology, nephrology, neurosciences, gastroenterology, paediatrics, robotic surgery, and organ transplantation.
