A devastating explosion rocked an oxygen cylinder plant in Punjab’s Mohali district on August 06, morning, claiming the lives of two individuals and injuring three others. The blast occurred around 9 AM at a unit in the Industrial Area, Phase-9, and sent shockwaves through the surrounding locality.

According to officials, the explosion originated from a single oxygen cylinder, which triggered a chain reaction, causing multiple other cylinders to detonate. Emergency teams, including senior police officers and civil administration officials, swiftly reached the site to oversee rescue and relief operations.

Mohali Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Damandeep Kaur confirmed the fatalities and said, “We received information about a cylinder blast this morning. On arriving at the scene, we found two casualties and several injured. The injured have been moved to the Civil Hospital for treatment, and post-mortem procedures for the deceased are underway.”

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Harsimran Singh Bal identified the deceased as Asif and Devender. Another senior officer, SP Sirivennela, added, “The blast occurred in the Phase 11 industrial area and resulted in two fatalities and three serious injuries. A preliminary investigation is ongoing, and potential gas leakage is also being looked into.”

This incident comes just months after a similar blast occurred in Amritsar’s Naushera village on May 27, where one person was killed in an explosion reported near the Kambo police station.

Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation into the Mohali blast to determine the exact cause and assess any lapses in safety protocols.
