Following the tragic crash of Air India flight AI-171, which was carrying 242 passengers, mass post-mortem procedures are currently being carried out at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, officials confirmed on Friday (June 13).

A dedicated team of 70 to 80 doctors, including medical personnel from Primary and Community Health Centres across Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Anand, Nadiad, and the Civil Hospital staff, have been working around the clock since Thursday evening to complete the autopsies and aid in the identification process.

So far, five victims have been identified, with their remains handed over to their families with full respect and compassion. The identified victims include two from Rajasthan, two from Bhavnagar, and one from Madhya Pradesh. More relatives continue to arrive at the hospital to help identify additional victims.

Due to the severe burns sustained by many passengers, DNA testing is being employed to confirm identities. Authorities have urged close family members of the deceased to provide blood samples to speed up the identification process.

To support families during this difficult time, Ahmedabad Civil Hospital has issued emergency helpline numbers for inquiries related to the injured or deceased: 6357373831 and 6357373841.

In a personal tragedy linked to the incident, Anjali Rupani, wife of former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, arrived in Ahmedabad from London on Friday morning. Her husband was among those who lost their lives in the devastating crash.
