Lieutenant General Avinash Das, a distinguished ENT specialist with nearly 40 years of service in the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS), took over as the Commandant of the Army Hospital (Research & Referral), New Delhi, on November 1, 2025.
An alumnus of the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, Lt Gen Das brings a wealth of clinical expertise and leadership experience, having held several key administrative and command appointments during his career. His notable roles include serving as Senior Advisor at Base Hospital, Delhi Cantt, and Command Hospital, Lucknow.
Over the years, Lt Gen Das has earned several commendations, including those from the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (CISC), and General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), in recognition of his exceptional service and commitment.
As Commandant of Command Hospital (Northern Command), he successfully oversaw the relocation of the hospital at Udhampur to a new, modern facility equipped with advanced infrastructure.
In his new role at Army Hospital (R&R), Lt Gen Das is expected to further strengthen the institution’s reputation for excellence in healthcare, research, and medical education. His vision focuses on enhancing patient care, fostering innovation, and continuing the hospital’s legacy as a premier medical center serving the Armed Forces and civilians alike.
