Delhi’s Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital and Pt Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital have been awarded the National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification by the Union Health Ministry. LNJP has become the country’s first 2,000-bed government hospital to earn this recognition, according to official statements.

Under the NQAS assessment, LNJP scored 95.80 per cent, while Pt Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital secured 96.72 per cent. Both hospitals were granted the “Quality Certified” status under the Union Health Ministry’s quality assurance framework for public healthcare institutions.

LNJP achieved high scores across several parameters, including 99.43 per cent in service delivery, 99.11 per cent in patient rights, 97.65 per cent in clinical services, 97.06 per cent in infection control and 95.65 per cent in quality management. The hospital also received 99.54 per cent in patient privacy and dignity, while patient satisfaction stood at 87.33 per cent.

Among individual departments, the pharmacy scored 95.83 per cent, the ICU received 96.89 per cent and the hemodialysis centre secured 97.89 per cent.

According to the Delhi government, the certification was based on performance in key healthcare areas such as OPD services, ICU care, blood bank operations, labour rooms, radiology, laboratories, emergency services and maternal healthcare.

Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said the recognition reflects the government’s focus on improving healthcare delivery and providing quality, patient-centric services in government hospitals. He added that efforts are also being made to improve cleanliness and hygiene through the Kayakalp initiative.

The minister further announced that 14 MRI machines and over 25 ultrasound machines will soon be installed in Delhi government hospitals to strengthen diagnostic facilities and reduce inconvenience for patients.

LNJP Hospital stated that over the years it has introduced several reforms, including stronger infection control practices, scientific sanitation measures, biomedical waste management systems, mandatory infection prevention training, digital monitoring systems, grievance redressal mechanisms, improved drug inventory management and uninterrupted water and electricity supply.

The hospital also said the NQAS certification is expected to bring an additional annual incentive of more than Rs 2 crore. Under the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, NQAS-certified hospitals receive an extra 15 per cent incentive above standard package rates.

LNJP Medical Director BL Chaudhary congratulated doctors, nurses, healthcare workers, sanitation staff, administrative teams and support personnel for contributing to the achievement.

The Delhi government said the certification highlights its commitment to strengthening public healthcare infrastructure and ensuring quality healthcare services for citizens.
