Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the newly established 200-bed Amandeep BR Medicity Hospital, developed in collaboration with Ujala Cygnus Healthcare, at Tengpora Bemina Bypass in Srinagar. Speaking on the occasion, the LG emphasized the importance of strong collaboration between the public and private sectors to enhance healthcare outcomes and enure equitable access to quality medical services for all citizens.
Highlighting the rapid progress made in Jammu and Kashmir’s healthcare sector since 2020, Sinha noted that several modern medical facilities have been developed across the Union Territory. He said that new hospitals have been set up, the number of MBBS and nursing seats has increased significantly to ensure a sufficient pool of skilled professionals, and healthcare services in remote areas have been strengthened through thousands of Health and Wellness Centres.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we have established new medical colleges, launched universal health insurance, and expanded healthcare accessibility across J&K. Today, nearly 90 percent of our population is covered under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, offering health insurance of ₹5 lakh per family. Our health infrastructure has improved substantially, and we are successfully attracting private investment in this vital sector,” he said.
The Lieutenant Governor also stressed the need for optimal utilization of available resources while delivering care with empathy, sensitivity, and commitment.
The event was attended by Sunil Sharma, Leader of Opposition in the J&K Legislative Assembly; Dr Darakhshan Andrabi, Chairperson of the J&K Waqf Board; Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Secretary, Health and Medical Education; and Dr Amandeep Kaur, Managing Director and CEO of Ujala Cygnus Healthcare Services, among other dignitaries.
