In a innovative move for the Indian healthcare and innovation ecosystem, the Centre for Medical Innovation (CMI) at the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida, has launched NIRMAN, the country’s first MedTech startup incubation program to be housed within a government hospital. The program to be unveil on the occasion of Doctor’s Day 2025 and aims to support 20 early-stage startups focused on transformative medical technologies, under the vision of improving healthcare “From Ward to World.”

What sets NIRMAN apart is its mandatory clinical immersion component an unprecedented step for MedTech incubators in India. Startups selected for the cohort will spend two weeks inside hospital wards, directly engaging with healthcare professionals, patients, and administrators. This hands-on experience is intended to help innovators gain a deeper understanding of real-world healthcare needs, enabling them to create practical, context-aware solutions.

Located within the 630-bed tertiary care GIMS hospital which sees over 5 lakh patients annually CMI GIMS is uniquely positioned to offer startups an immersive and high-impact innovation environment. The hospital is the only government facility in Uttar Pradesh accredited by both NABH and NABL, making it an ideal setting for clinical validation.

The program will offer startups access to a range of advanced facilities, including a dedicated Startup OPD, wet and dry laboratories, office space, and robust infrastructure for product testing and validation. It also boasts affiliations with premier research and innovation platforms like ICMR-INTENT and Stanford Biodesign India, further elevating its national and international standing.

Applications are now open for startups across key domains such as medical devices, diagnostics, digital health, and biotechnology. Selected entrepreneurs will benefit from tailored mentorship, access to clinical trials, ethical and regulatory guidance, and comprehensive support to validate and scale their products.

“NIRMAN is not just about accelerating startups it’s about embedding innovation into the public health fabric,” said a CMI GIMS spokesperson. “Doctor’s Day was the perfect time to launch this initiative, as it represents a commitment to developing solutions that arise directly from the healthcare system and serve its real needs.”

As India pushes forward with ambitious plans to strengthen its healthcare infrastructure and emerge as a global MedTech leader, initiatives like NIRMAN are poised to play a pivotal role. By transforming frontline clinical insights into scalable technologies, CMI GIMS aims to redefine how medical innovation is nurtured in the country.
