Indian Air Force on Tuesday tested BHISHM portable cubes at Agra for airdrops from the aircraft. This is the first time the Indian Air Force tested this portable hospital. This test was performed so that the portable hospital can be deployed to cater to emergencies anywhere.
As per the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, BHISHM portable cubes are a part of the broader initiative named “Project BHISHM” – Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog, Hita and Maitri, which is tailored to treat up to 200 casualties, emphasising rapid response and comprehensive care.

What is Project BHISHM?

Project BHISHM, or Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog, Hita, and Maitri, includes these portable hospitals which can help up to 200 people at once. This project focuses on providing fast and widespread medical help during disasters.

Features of the BHISHM Portable Hospital

The portable hospital has modern technology like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data analytics that help manage medical care efficiently on the spot. It consists of 72 parts that are easy to move and can be transported by hand, bicycle, or possibly drones. This makes it very adaptable for different situations.

How It Works

These hospitals can be dropped from the air and are made to be tough, waterproof, and not too heavy. They can be set up very quickly, in about 12 minutes, which is crucial during emergencies like large accidents or disasters.

Past Use and What’s Next

Before this test, two of these hospital units were used during a large event in Ayodhya on January 22. This showed that they could be set up quickly and work well in real-life situations. The recent tests and possible future uses of these portable hospitals show great promise in improving how India responds to disasters and emergencies, ensuring quick medical help is available wherever it’s needed.
