In a bizarre blend of crime, technology, and medical investigation, police in Bareilly cracked a house theft case where the accused attempted to destroy evidence by swallowing it only to be caught through imaging.
The incident took place in Suresh Sharma Nagar, where thieves allegedly entered Ashok Kumar’s house through a neighboring rooftop. After gaining access, they decamped with a Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycle and a silver bracelet. A complaint was lodged at Baradari police station, following which an investigation was launched.
Using CCTV footage provided by the victim and digital tracking through the ‘Yaksh App’, police identified two suspects Sikandar from Hajiyapur and Mukesh Kumar from Bithri. Both were subsequently arrested.
However, during the arrest, Sikandar made a shocking move. In an attempt to conceal evidence, he put the stolen bracelet in his mouth and swallowed it with water right in front of the police team, leaving officers stunned.
The incident bears a striking resemblance to a scene from the Malayalam film Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum, starring Fahadh Faasil. In the critically acclaimed film, Fahadh Faasil plays a petty thief who swallows a gold chain to evade arrest, triggering a tense and realistic police investigation. The movie is widely praised for its raw storytelling and portrayal of how law enforcement handles such unusual situations.
Back in Bareilly, police acted swiftly and took the accused to the district hospital. An X-ray examination confirmed that the bracelet was lodged inside his stomach. Authorities are now waiting for it to pass naturally. If that does not happen, a medical procedure or surgery may be required to retrieve the item.
Police officials stated that once the bracelet is recovered, the accused will be sent to judicial custody. The case highlights how modern tools from surveillance technology to medical imaging are making it increasingly difficult for criminals to evade the law, even with desperate and unconventional tactics.
