The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Bareilly has announced the results of its latest elections on September 20, with Dr. Himanshu Agrawal elected President-Elect. He defeated Dr. R.K. Bhaskar by 260 votes.
Dr. Agrawal secured 521 votes against Dr. Bhaskar’s 261 votes. Voting for the three contested posts was held on Sunday (Sept. 20) and continued until 5 pm, followed by the opening of ballot boxes and counting of votes.
For the two Vice-President positions, Dr. Anshu Agrawal received the highest number of votes with 572, while Dr. Shalini Maheshwari secured 415 votes. Both were elected as Vice-Presidents. Dr. Veer Mahendra Pal Singh Gangwar was the third candidate in the contest.
The Treasurer’s post also saw a direct contest, with Dr. Rajveer Singh Gangwar securing 392 votes. He contested against Dr Kamendra Singh.
Most of the other IMA posts were filled unopposed, limiting voting to the President-Elect, Vice-President and Treasurer positions. Dr. Mohit Agrawal was elected Secretary unopposed after Dr. Rajveer Gangwar withdrew his candidature. Dr.Ritu Rajiv was elected unopposed as a member of the Hospital Advisory Committee, while Dr. Mayank Kumar Gupta was elected unopposed as Public Relations Officer.
All positions in the Executive Committee and State Council were also filled without a contest. The final election status was confirmed following the completion of the nomination and withdrawal process.
The election committee was headed by Dr. Vimal Bhardwaj, with IMA President Dr. Atul Srivastava and other members of the election and rules committees participating in the proceedings.
Elected office-bearers outline priorities
Dr. Himanshu Agrawal said doctors’ safety would remain a key priority. He also highlighted efforts to address difficulties in the registration of hospitals, pathology and radiology centres, along with initiatives related to doctors’ health and social service.
Dr. Anshu Agrawal said the association would work towards facilitating the release of pending payments to hospitals providing treatment under the Ayushman scheme. He also proposed expanding sports activities to encourage better health among doctors.
Dr. Shalini Maheshwari said she would support measures aimed at protecting the interests of hospitals and doctors, improving patient care and strengthening social-service initiatives.
Dr. Rajveer Gangwar said he would work towards implementing decisions taken in the interest of doctors. He also said the association would seek legal action to address incidents of violence in hospitals.
