IHH Healthcare has completed its mandatory open offer for Fortis Healthcare Ltd and Fortis Malar Hospitals Ltd, reinforcing its long-term growth strategy in the Indian market.
Following the completion of the tender offer, IHH Healthcare’s shareholding has increased to 31.17 per cent in Fortis Healthcare and 62.73 per cent in Fortis Malar Hospitals. The group plans to leverage this expanded ownership to enhance operational efficiencies, foster innovation, and improve patient care across its hospital network.
Group Chief Executive Officer Dr Prem Kumar Nair said the successful completion of the open offer marks the beginning of the next phase of IHH Healthcare’s expansion in India. He noted that the development comes at a critical juncture, as the group embarks on a comprehensive transformation aimed at strengthening long-term resilience.
“We are well placed to accelerate innovation, strengthen patient care and create sustainable long-term value in India’s rapidly evolving healthcare landscape,” Dr Nair said. He added that deeper collaboration between Fortis Healthcare and Gleneagles Healthcare India would help unlock operational synergies and raise standards of care nationwide.
India remains one of IHH Healthcare’s most attractive growth markets, driven by rising incomes, wider insurance coverage, and growing demand for complex medical treatments.
Group Chief Corporate Officer Ashok Pandit said the country offers significant growth potential, supported by steady patient volumes and increasing clinical complexity. He highlighted that favourable structural trends are expected to sustain revenue growth over the long term.
“With strong governance practices and continued investments in advanced medical technologies, we are well positioned to meet the rising demand for high-quality healthcare outcomes,” Pandit said. He added that the group plans to expand capacity by over one-third, targeting approximately 7,000 beds in India by 2028.
At present, IHH Healthcare operates a network of 35 hospitals with more than 5,000 beds across 11 states in India. Through operational and financial synergies, the group aims to add around 2,000 additional beds by 2028 while strengthening clinical excellence and expanding its geographic footprint.
Globally, IHH Healthcare operates well-known hospital brands such as Acibadem, Gleneagles, Fortis Island, Mount Elizabeth, Pantai, Parkway and Prince Court, with a presence in 10 countries including Malaysia, Singapore, Türkiye, India and China.
Earlier this year, the group renewed its brand identity to reflect its ambition of becoming a global healthcare leader, with a focus on innovation, strategic partnerships and stronger integration across the healthcare ecosystem.
