When a five-storey building collapsed in Delhi’s Satya Niketan on Sept 7, every second became critical for those trapped or injured at the site.
Blinkit’s ambulance service received an emergency alert at around 1:40 PM and reportedly reached the location by 1:50 PM, arriving with trained paramedics, oxygen support and essential medical equipment.
The rapid response highlights how faster access to emergency medical care can play a crucial role during accidents, building collapses and other critical situations where every minute can make a difference.
Blinkit said its ambulance service has responded to more than 4,200 emergencies since its launch in January 2025. The service is currently available free of charge across Gurugram and select areas of Delhi-NCR.
The initiative also draws attention to the wider challenge of emergency medical response in densely populated urban areas, where delays in reaching patients can significantly affect outcomes. Expanding the availability of Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances and improving response times could strengthen emergency preparedness and rescue capabilities.
India currently has around one Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance for every one lakh people, highlighting the need to expand emergency ambulance coverage and improve response times across the country. Faster, well-equipped ambulance services can help provide critical medical support before patients reach a hospital.
The Satya Niketan incident is another example of how quick ambulance access, trained paramedics and immediate medical support at the scene can potentially save critical minutes and lives.
