HOSMAC has introduced the Urban Health Data Platform (UHDP), a research-based digital solution designed to help healthcare stakeholders gain deeper insights into India’s healthcare infrastructure through interactive mapping and analytical tools.

Developed using years of research, data validation, and computational analysis, the beta version of the platform allows users to map hospitals based on ownership patterns and geographic locations while generating actionable insights to support healthcare planning, policymaking, research, and investment strategies.

Addressing the challenge of fragmented healthcare data

Healthcare planning in India has long been constrained by the lack of consolidated and reliable data. To overcome this challenge, HOSMAC developed the Urban Health Data Platform to bring together validated healthcare datasets within a unified, interactive framework.

Rather than functioning solely as a data repository, the platform enables users to visualize, analyze, compare, and interpret healthcare infrastructure across different regions through dynamic filtering and mapping capabilities.

Initial focus on cancer care infrastructure

The beta version currently maps nearly 700 cancer hospitals across India, including government-run, trust-owned, and private institutions. Beyond identifying healthcare facilities, the platform evaluates patient catchment areas using travel distances and road connectivity data, helping identify both adequately served and underserved regions.

Users can also access demographic and socio-economic information, including population statistics, hospital ownership trends, and regional healthcare coverage, facilitating evidence-based decision-making and planning.

According to the company, the platform additionally offers simulation capabilities, allowing users to virtually introduce a proposed healthcare facility and assess its potential impact on patient accessibility and catchment areas. For instance, an analysis of Maharashtra’s Nanded region indicates that establishing a government cancer hospital could substantially improve access for populations currently travelling over 200 kilometres for treatment while reducing the burden on neighbouring healthcare facilities.

Comparative analysis of major cities

The platform also provides comparative insights into cancer care accessibility across major metropolitan areas. Preliminary findings suggest that Kolkata has one of the largest cancer care catchment populations, indicating that many patients travel considerable distances for treatment.

In contrast, Chennai appears to have a more compact catchment area supported by a relatively well-distributed cancer care network. Meanwhile, Mumbai and Delhi benefit from surrounding satellite cities that enhance regional healthcare accessibility and service delivery.

Leadership perspective

Commenting on the launch, Dr. Vivek Desai, Founder and Managing Director of HOSMAC, said, “The Urban Health Data Platform reflects our commitment to democratizing healthcare intelligence and providing stakeholders with meaningful, research-backed insights. India needs data-driven healthcare planning more than ever. By making validated healthcare information available through an interactive platform, we aim to support informed investment decisions, stronger healthcare systems, and more equitable access to healthcare services.”

Future expansion plans

HOSMAC plans to further develop the Urban Health Data Platform by incorporating additional healthcare datasets, hospital categories, and advanced analytical features. Future versions are expected to include information related to hospital capacity, affordability, medical equipment availability, treatment costs, demographic patterns, government empanelment, and patient care pathways.

Designed for hospital owners, healthcare administrators, consultants, policymakers, researchers, investors, and public health professionals, the Urban Health Data Platform underscores HOSMAC’s commitment to advancing healthcare delivery through research, innovation, and data-driven decision-making.
