Himachal Pradesh has entered a new era of advanced healthcare with the launch of its first robotic surgery service at the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialities (AIMSS) in Chamiyana, near Shimla. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated the facility and hailed the development as a “historic milestone” for the state’s medical services.
The procedure was carried out on a patient from Shimla’s Khalini area suffering from a prostate problem. A surgical team comprising Dr. Anant Kumar, Dr. Pamposh Raina and Dr. Pawan Kaundal successfully performed the operation using robotic assistance. The surgery lasted roughly three hours and was completed without any blood loss a significant improvement compared to the conventional approach which generally takes around five hours and requires multiple blood transfusions.
Thanks to the minimally invasive technique, the patient is expected to be discharged within three to four days, as opposed to the week-long or longer recovery period after traditional surgery.
According to CM Sukhu, the facility will allow patients in Himachal to access world-class surgical care locally, reducing the need to travel to major metropolitan hospitals. He called the achievement “a proud moment for the state’s public health system” and a step forward in making advanced treatment accessible to all.
